Call for Applications: Directors in TYA – An International Exchange

How can a theatre become a place of encounter? What many places desire or claim is already a reality and practice elsewhere. But what does this look like? How is it shaped by, with, and for young people?

ASSITEJ Germany has invited PAYPA to nominate one New Zealand theatre director for participation in the 2027 edition of DIRECTORS IN TYA – An International Exchange. A full week is dedicated to an exchange about directing in the performing arts for young audiences. You can meet other directors from all over the world, share your ideas, learn from other professionals and experience TYA in Germany.

DIRECTORS IN TYA – An International Exchange, known globally also as the “International Directors’ Seminar”, takes place every other year. It addresses directors as independent artists in the field of TYA and it is open to theatre professionals working in all genres and forms of performing arts for young audiences, including dance, performance, puppet and object theatre.

DIRECTORS IN TYA – An International Exchange wishes to address directors who have recently given new impulses and set new standards.

In 2027 DIRECTORS IN TYA – An International Exchange will take place from May 23nd – 30th 2027 at COMEDIA Theatre Cologne.

ASSITEJ Germany and COMEDIA Theatre Cologne will cover the costs for accommodation, catering, cultural events and leisure activities for all participants. PAYPA may be able to contribute towards international travel fares, subject to funding.

If you would like to be considered as New Zealand’s nominee for the exchange, please submit an EOI to PAYPA by June 30th.
