Established in 2002, He Waka Eke Noa Charitable Trust aims to facilitate arts access and to inspire arts practitioners and audiences, irrespective of social, economic or geographic isolation. In 2019 the Trust opened Kete Aronui, a 5-studio rehearsal space for all manner of arts based activities - 24/7 autonomous access, low hire rates and its central location have seen Kete Aronui fast become a preferred space for individual and group rehearsals for practitioners of all disciplines.

In 2021, the Trust began preparations for opening The Factory Theatre, a flexible black-box performance venue which officially opened in late 2023. Suitable for all manner of artistic endeavours, the Trust continues to seek the best ways to support the continually under-served arts community - with capacity for aerial works, development seasons and full-scale productions, this 'hidden gem' in Onehunga is the newest space for high-calibre arts in Tāmaki Makaurau.
