Wellington Puppetry Festival

The red-and-white-striped roof of a carnival tent with the words "Wellington Puppetry Festival" above it.

Returning this spring to fill the Vogelmorn Precinct with Puppetry and Wonder!
A family-first celebration brought to life by our own community of puppeteers, storytellers and makers.

FREE Saturday morning Junk Puppet Carnival

Drop in for the Junk Puppet Carnival on the Vogelmorn Green, with hands-on Junk Puppet Making workshops, Recycled Paper Crafts, the Odditorium, Roaming Puppets, Little Landscapes show, Teatro Lambe Lambe (tiny theatres), Parachute games, Cafe, Street Musicians, a Chill Zone for mums with bubs and even an Ice-Cream van!

Special guests Toro PikoPiko Puppets

Absolute favourites of our 2024 festival, Toro Pikopiko Puppets are returning with an interactive pūrākau for the whole whānau to enjoy. Using traditional Kare-tao puppets, children participate in narrated retellings of legendary Ngāti Tūwharetoa stories such as the Battle of the Mountains and how Volcanic Fire came to Aotearoaa - musical stories with an ultimately peaceful outcome!
We are very honoured to have Jeffrey and Whaitaima join us again as our Festival Kaumātua, lighting the manawhenua torch for this occasion.

Plus Ticketed Shows, a Cabaret Evening and Workshops for Adults!
